The Planet Just Crossed Another Major Carbon Milestone

580fbf45170000232face1f9

Last year’s average carbon dioxide concentration crossed a major milestone and will likely stay at or above that level for several generations.

CO2 concentrations last year were equal to 144 percent of pre-industrial levels. Other emissions measured in the report, methane and nitrous oxide, were equal to 256 percent and 121 percent of pre-industrial levels, respectively. Among those, however, CO2 contributes the most to warming and is responsible for about 81 percent of the increase in radiative forcing over the past decade.

Almost one in seven of the world’s children, 300 million, live in areas with the most toxic levels of outdoor air pollution – six or more times higher than international guidelines.

The findings come a week ahead of the COP 22 in Marrakesh, Morocco, where UNICEF is calling on world leaders to take urgent action to cut air pollution in their countries.

It’s about a new report of UNICEF, which underline the importance of tha issue.  Leaders have to take action, so as to solve it. Read more about it: #UNICEF

Global warming is on track to disrupt the Mediterranean region more than any droughts or heatwaves in the past 10,000 years, turning parts of southern Europe into desert by the end of the century.

Last year, almost 200 governments agreed in Paris to limit the rise in average world surface temperatures to “well below” 2C above pre-industrial times, ideally 1.5C. Governments will meet in Morocco next month to review the accord.

Investors warn car industry over climate change

4096

Major investors have warned the automotive industry it needs to accelerate its readiness for a low-carbon world if it is to retain their support and prosper.

Vehicle makers must put climate change specialists on their boards, engage better with policy-makers, and invest more heavily in low-emission cars.

Last year’s Paris climate change agreement has increased the urgency for the big manufacturers such as Ford, VW and Toyota to move more quickly, the report warns.

We are talking about a very important issue with serious consequences. So, follow the link below, to learn more about it and what you can do to help, so as to solve the problem: #theguardian
