The Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel Africa’s Commitment

Climate change affects mostly developing countries and especially those in Subsaharian Africa

The eleven below shown subsaharian countries have decided, agreed and committed in first phase, to implement a green wall, by planting trees alongside the southern edge of the Sahara Desert extended from one point (Senegal) of Africa to another (Djibouti), with intent to prevent desertification and combat climate change.

Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel

Length:                                                    8.500 km

Width:                                                      100 km

Extent:                                                     850.000 km2

Plants to plant (minimum):                  20 billion pieces

In a second phase, or maybe contemporary, they intent to transform the entire Sahel Region, 5 million Km2, in an agroforestry area, by planting 150 billion trees, for food and fodder, combating poverty, famine, malnutrition and migration.

For better and more efficient conduct of the implementation of this purpose, they have established a pan African agency with the following data:

Name:   PAGGW - PanAfrican Agency for the Great Green Wall

URL:      http:// www.grandemurailleverte.org

Each country of the eleven above mentioned, has also established a National Agency for the Great Green Wall, which is responsible and must conduct the implementation of its part of the Great Green Wall.

AZA – Arid Zone Afforestation NPO – hereafter AZA, is continuously in contact with all these agencies discussing the cooperation conditions for the implementation of the Great Green Wall.

AZA can participate in two ways. One is to implement directly, in collaboration with other local partners and in common accord with the National Agency of every country, perpetual afforestation projects. The other one is to involve all local habitants in the implementation of the purpose by distributing and providing them with the tree planting system SAFE TREE specific models giving them the possibility to plant and grow up trees in their property or in a common area belonging to the village community.

10 million people by 100 trees means 1 billion trees.

In this way AZA involves all humanity to participate in planting trees in the arid and deserted areas of the planet by financing the cost of the SAFE TREE specific models.

Scientists suggest that humanity has to plant minimum 1 trillion trees in arid and deserted areas in order to save the planet from the overwarming, but it is impossible to implement without involving all habitants in these areas.
